In the real world they were an agrarian visionary tradition though exactly what they were outside of that is unknown.
These were people that claimed to be werewolves that fought demons and witches, the Malandanti, for God. The church often tried them for heresy. But there is real life history that supports the fantasy of a Holy Werewolf, thus Worgen Paladin sounds cool to me.
